​Merseyside and Cheshire’s specialist cancer hospital has been shortlisted for one of the UK’s top awards for patient safety against tough competition from healthcare providers across the nation. The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust – which delivers highly-specialist care from its own sites in Aintree, Liverpool and Wirral, as well as other hospitals across the region – is a finalist in the ‘Changing Culture’ category of the HSJ Patient Safety Awards 2020.

The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust has been voted one of England’s top hospitals for inpatients in a recent survey – the highest-scoring cancer hospital in the North West, the joint-highest cancer hospital nationally, and one of only seven trusts in England to be rated “consistently” well above average after achieving the same rating last year. The 2019 Adult Inpatient Survey, conducted by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), rated The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in Merseyside “well above average” when compared to other hospitals in nine out of ten survey categories, including Care and Treatment, Waiting Lists and Leaving Hospital.

A major new hospital that will transform cancer care in a region that is one of the worst affected nationally by the disease has opened in the heart of Liverpool. The 11-storey Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Liverpool (CCC-L) will deliver highly-specialist care including pioneering immunotherapy and the most advanced forms of radiotherapy to the 2.4 million people in Cheshire and Merseyside, and those in surrounding areas.

The face visors, designed to be worn as PPE against the spread of Coronavirus and other infectious diseases, have been donated to frontline NHS workers in the new haemato-oncology ward at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Liverpool by staff from the Design Technology and Engineering Department at Neston High School.

In celebration of Learning Disability Week 2020 we have launched a short film created to show what the treatment journey for a patient with a learning disability and/or autism attending one of our hospitals for radiotherapy may look like.
